Back in the day, when educators received essays and papers from students, the question of academic integrity or non thereof never came to mind. This was necessitated by the fact that they knew that students who had handed in the essays had personally written them. However, in contemporary times, that’s no longer the case, when educators receive essays and papers, they now worry about academic integrity. This is necessitated by the fact that some students may now simply use Al content generators to write their essays. To guard against this and protect academic integrity, educators can use the Al Writing Check.
What Al Writing Check Offers
Al Writing Check is an Al detection tool specifically designed for educators. Developed by Quill.org and CommonLit.org, Al Writing Check runs the content through a vast dataset of over 15K essays. This in essence makes it 80% to 90% accurate.
On the official Al Writing Check website, it’s written that “when students pass off Al-generated writing as their own, they are not engaging in the critical process of building their own writing skills.” This in essence demonstrates the reason why Quill and CommonLit so it fit to come up with the Al Writing Check to help educators preserve academic integrity.
While Al Writing Check is doing noble work in preserving academic integrity, it does have its limitations. First and most notably, the Al Writing Check algorithm is designed to detect ChatGPT-generated content. As such, if students use other machine learning models other than ChatGPT, their work may be passed as human written at Al Writing Check.
Another limitation of Al Writing Check is that it has a max word limit of just 400 words on each section. If educators want to check essays longer than 400 words (which is often the case), then they will need to divide the essay into different 400-word sections first. This makes the job of running the essays more strenuous and time-consuming.
How Al Writing Check Works
Al Writing Check is a pretty basic Al detection tool. All that users need to do is to paste the content they want to check on the site and proceed to click the ‘Check Text’ button. Afterwards, Al Writing Check will promptly work its magic and return the results that determine if the content is human-written or not.
Al Writing Check Pricing
Quill.org and CommonLit are both nonprofit educational technology organisations. They developed the Al Writing Check tool for free and it costs zero dollars to use it.
Round Up
Al Writing Check is a basic but nonetheless great Al detection tool. It serves a very noble purpose as it aims at preserving academic integrity by allowing educators to run and check the essays and papers they receive from their students for Al-generated content and plagiarism. Though great, Al Writing Check does have some limitations. Most notably, it’s based on ChatGPT hence it’s effective when detecting ChatGPT Al written content. Also, it supports a rather low word count – just 400 words for a single run.
